HOT, HOT, HOT!

It's officially summer, my favourite time of the year! As much as I love summer, I know it's hard to stay comfortable in the heat when you are pregnant. Whether you are dealing with nausea or pregnancy sickness, zero energy, or just struggling to move your growing body around, the hot weather can definitely make a challenging time even more challenging.

Here are 5 tips to help you and your bump stay cool and hydrated during these hot summer months.

1. Swimming:

Swimming is not only a great way to stay cool, it can also help you relax, get some low impact exercise and can help your baby move into (and stay) in a favourable position for birth. Being weightless in the water is great for achy joints and muscles. REMEMBER: Stay hydrated and if outdoors, take any precautions with sun exposure.

2. Frozen Grapes:

If you haven't tried them, they are amazing! Wash them thoroughly, remove them from the stems, put them in a freezer bag/container and pop them in the freezer. If you have children they will also love them (just make sure they are cut appropriately for their age - easily done when frozen). WARNING: Highly addictive!

3. Cold Drinks:

Mocktails, cold tea infusions, iced coffees, smoothies, fresh lemonade, fruit infused water, you get the picture! Enjoy!

4. Popsicles:

Whether you make your own with reusable molds, or buy them ready made, popsicles are the perfect treat for everyone on hot days. Keep your freezer stocked up, as if your family is like mine, they will disappear fast!

5. Portable Fan:

Electric or handheld paper fan, either will do the trick! Especially with covid-19 restrictions requiring us to wear masks many places, a small fan can be a lifesaver. There are even micro USB fans which can attach to your phone, so you can sit back under an umbrella, with a cool drink, binge on your favourite series AND stay cool.

BIRTH TIP: Pop your fan in your birth bag, it may come in handy!

I hope these tips will help you stay cool over the next few months and you are able to enjoy this time despite any discomforts! I promise you next summer will be very different 😉
